VJ Day 2020

Welcome to the Looe Royal British Legion website. Looe is a small coastal town and fishing port in South East Cornwall. It is a popular holiday resort with it's picturesque harbour and beach. The Looe branch of the the Royal British Legion (RBL) was formed in 1921. We hold friendly and informal meetings which are held on a monthly basis. Everybody is welcome to attend our meetings and see how we function and what we do.

Armistice Day. The Looe Branch of the Royal British Legion will be holding a short Armistice Day service at the Looe War Memorial on Thursday the 11th November, 2021. The service will start at approximately 10.45am with a two minutes silence at eleven o’clock and a bugler to play the ‘Last Post’.

Remembrance Sunday. As Looe Town Council will not be holding a civic ceremony for Remembrance Sunday, Looe Royal British Legion, as the custodians of the memory of the fallen, will hold their own ceremony. It will be held at the Looe War Memorial on Sunday 14th November, 2021, starting at approximately 10:45am.  Everyone is welcome to attend but the latest Covid-19 regulations must be maintained. There will be two minutes silence at eleven o’clock and a bugler to play the ‘Last Post’. Although there will be no formal laying of poppy wreaths, they can still be handed in at the ceremony for display at the memorial. Alternatively, wreaths can be laid outside of the ceremony by organisations, or individuals, at a time and date, near to Remembrance Sunday, that is convenient to them.

Poppy Wreaths can only be ordered from our Poppy Appeal organisers, David and Annette Bryan, telephone 01503 264130. David and Annette would also like to hear from anyone who is willing to help with the Poppy Appeal collection.

Meetings: We are glad to inform you that our ‘first Monday of the month’ branch meetings have recommenced. The venue is, as always, the ground floor bar of the Looe Social Club, West Looe Quay. Meetings start sharp at 7:30 pm but it might be prudent to be a little early to get your refreshments. We look forward to seeing our members and new, or potential, members are very welcome.
